Viking went from hockey to PT: “I didn’t think you could make a living from your hobby”

Viking Andersson, 29, grew up on the ice hockey rink, but at the age of 24, his body was tired and he realised it was time to quit while he was at the top.
“I’ve always thought about becoming a personal trainer, but I figured it was more of a hobby than something you could actually make a living from. That’s why I took a job as a security guard, thinking it would be temporary, but I ended up staying there for four years,” he said.
One day at the gym, a friend suddenly asked Viking if he should consider becoming a personal trainer, but Viking was sceptical.
He had a PT colleague who was doing very well. I started following him a bit from the sidelines and saw how well he was doing. That made me realise that maybe it was a good idea after all, so I started looking around for PT training courses online.
Felt good and serious
After some research, we chose EBT Academy, which offers distance learning combined with physical meetings and lectures.
The price was more favourable than many other options, while the quality felt just as high and professional. I quickly realised that I was looking forward to the lectures – the teachers were very skilled and explained things in a way that I could really understand. Not everything was completely new to me, but because the content is based on evidence-based knowledge, I was able to understand why certain things work the way they do. I learned a lot, he says.
Promised to arrange an interview
After graduating, Viking was at a party with some friends. Later that evening, he started talking to a guy he had never met before, who worked at a gym. The guy promised to ask the gym’s PT manager to contact him about an interview – something Viking initially dismissed as empty talk after a few beers.
– So when they actually called, I was really surprised. We clicked right away, and I got the chance to start working at my favourite gym in Odenplan. Today, I work as a full-time personal trainer, and it only took three months before I had clocked up enough hours to be able to live on my salary.
”Chance”
He describes his job as a personal trainer as a dream come true and notes that this is the first time he has truly enjoyed a workplace.
“This is undoubtedly the most enjoyable job in the world. I am grateful that chance brought me here,” he concludes.
